Colorectal cancer is a significant health concern in the Philippines.  Colorectal cancer ranks third among the most common cancers in the Philippines. In 2020, there were 17,364 recorded cases of colorectal cancer across all ages and both sexes.  Unfortunately, it is also the second leading cause of mortality among patients diagnosed with cancer. The risk of colorectal cancer increases with age, with the majority of affected individuals being 50 years and older.  Lifestyle Factors. Risk factors include alcohol abuse, obesity, excessive intake of processed meats, smoking, and physical inactivity. Having a first-degree relative with colorectal cancer also increases the risk. Look out for changes in bowel habits (such as diarrhea or constipation), narrowing of stool caliber, blood in stools, and unintended weight. On January 13, 2024, during a scheduled event in Ilagan City, within the Isabela province, fate led us to meet Jonalyn, a 15-year-old girl battling an autoimmune disorder. Our visit to Jonalyn’s home revealed the harsh reality of her declining health as she lay next to her mother. The sight of their struggle was poignant, as they are part of the city’s lower-income communities, struggling to afford the medical treatments recommended by their physician.  It was Theresa, a dedicated local government worker, who guided us to Jonalyn’s doorstep. Her involvement underscored the gravity of our commitment to societal welfare. At Revoobit Tuguegarao, our core mission extends beyond serving the well-off sectors; it is about ensuring health and wellness for all, especially those who are most in need.
